Wood elf names: D&D Sylvan and Skyrim Bosmer
D&D sylvan elves
D&D wood elves (often called sylvan elves in lore) use names tied to forests, seasons, and hunting. Surnames frequently compound nature nouns: Leaf, Moss, Oak, Reed, Fern. Given names run two to three syllables with soft consonants.
Skyrim Bosmer
Skyrim Bosmer (wood elves) use a different phonology: often shorter, sometimes rougher, with roots that feel tribal or wild rather than courtly. Many players search “wood elf” for both D&D and Elder Scrolls—use game mode on this page instead of mixing styles.
Who this fits
Rangers, druids, outlanders, and Horizon Walker PCs are the usual fit. Female wood elf searches only change gender weight, not a separate naming language.
D&D Sylvan vs Skyrim Bosmer
If your character sheet says wood elf from the PHB, stay in D&D mode. If you mod Skyrim or play ESO Bosmer, use Skyrim mode. Do not mix a Bosmer first name with a PHB-only surname unless your story explicitly crosses settings.
- D&D: Greenbough, Leafsong, Mossvale, Oakwhisper.
- Skyrim: shorter roots, less “silver/spire” nobility.
- Avoid names that sound like high elves (-dor Sunweave) on wood characters.
